Invented by Reliabitaly, a non-profit organisation, the app uses product codes to identify whether a product has been made in Italy. It also gives information about the origin of the product, including photographs and videos. Fake Italian foods and other products, often with Italian flags on the labels, are said to command a global market worth €54 billion, twice the value of real food exports. Reliabitaly regularly rails against Italian-sounding products on shelves around the world, from Bulgarian prosciutto to a German mozzarella that turned blue when it was unwrapped! From now on you can be aware of what you choose!
